Toowoomba Referendum - My Thoughts
Well I'm really disappointed at Toowoomba tonight.
I'm not going to get on my high horse too much, mainly because I'm tired - usually I wouldn't miss such an opportunity.
I posted in http://4350water.blogspot.com this comment which pretty much sums up my thoughts:
"Congratulations to Di Thorley and her staunch supporters who tried their hardest to lead the people of Toowoomba through this water crisis.
Unfortunately due to the narrow mindedness of mostly, dare I say, older "living in the Clive days" members of our fair city, Toowoomba is now back at square one.
Thankyou Toowoomba, I hope you're proud of yourselves!"
It's certainly been an interesting period in the history of Toowoomba, and looking back at other such instances in Toowoomba, it's not surprising the referendum was defeated - we're not known for liking change, in reality, it's a surprise someone like Di Thorley was elected to the mayoralty in the first place, let alone for a second term.
I love you Di!
Peace out!

But why vote yes for a project that was going to end up costing $150-200 million?
Where was the RO waste stream going to go?
Acland Coal didn't want it.
Regardless of your view of recycled water, this project didn't stack up and Thorely and Flanagan should resign - it was their handiwork.
Crocodile tears from the Mayor.
Will she ever stop trying to game us?
Bullshit bullshit bullshit! Di Thorley should NOT resign! Just because the people of Toowoomba were too stupid to see that she was trying to do a good thing for the city doesn't mean she should give up now.
And Kim, I hope Di snaps you up and eats you for breakfast.
It's amazing how Di was able to brainwash some of the people.
If you're going to come out and say ridiculous things like that on my blog, at least have the guts to put a name to your comments. Grow up.
I'm genuinely curious as to why you think that Di Thorley would cry crocodile tears. What's in it for her? Much more likely is, I think, the simple fact that she put a lot of effort into the "Yes" campaign, and was disappointed (to put it mildly) at the result.
Also, I would hesitate to call it "brain-washing". Mainly because I'd hesitate at anything that would make me come across as fuck-wit.
This from the Mayor who said in the last couple of weeks of the campaign - if you don't vote yes, you can leave town. That's democracy in action for you! And now she's on with her racist remarks on national TV. Don't tell me you support her comments as well.
Pfft. That's Di for you. She speaks her mind - whether you agree with everything is a different issue altogether.
That's hardly justification for her racist comments.
